Gucci Campaign: Northern Soul Pre Fall 2017

Gucci has celebrated Northern Soul though a Fashion film created with an all-black casting wearing the most vibrant clothing. The film follows the roots of Northern Soul, a black American movement intruding soul and funk music through vinyl. The film was also inspired by the famous Wigan Casino which is where Northern Soul started in the UK. The film follows dancers and actors with classic Northern Soul dancing, twists, spins, backdrops and high kicks whilst they enjoy music provided by DJ's which held the newest, never before heard tracks.

The concept was inspired by Malick Sibidè, who took a lot of black and white photos of people dancing, laughing and moving to capture the atmosphere of the swinging 60's. The whole film was shot and filmed by Glen Luchford, who regularly shoots for vogue and is inspirational for a film in the way he shoots and films.

Alessandro Michelle shot and directed the campaign. It was full of bright colours, tailored suits, fur coats, tracksuits and shoes that you could dance it. It was a clashing or prints and of course introduced an a animal cameo of a chameleons and iguanas.

The campaign has influenced our ideas about our film from the fun and vibrancy that came with Northern Soul music and dancing. This is what we want to capture at the end of our film. Despite the struggles of the working class, the music and the moves was a way of escapism for the working class.. This is what we have take from the film.
