We chose this as our final image for hand-in and for the exhibition at Kommune. After printing off the potential options we found this worked the best with our concept and had the strongest elements in correlation to the brief. The image has layers from the front to back and contrasts nicely with the background. Park Hill is an iconic spot in Sheffield, it was featured in our film and is highly recognised in the city of Sheffield. We were happy with the styling as it features Fred Perry and a focal point and we managed to get a lot of different styling pieces in the shot. All the elements of the photo work well together and we liked the shot, poses of the models and aesthetic of the whole piece in regards to our concept. The edits on the photo were minimal but I increased the contrast, and lowered the shadows to make the two people stand out. I was thinking about adding grain to the image but thought this looked more raw and would stand out more as its going to be printed on A0

After watching the Northern Soul Film, we had captured some ideas based on the creativity of the film, art direction and aesthetic as well as the mood created throughout. The movie followed two friends, one helping the other discover the underground (at the time) Northern Soul Scene. As well as the widely popular exclusive Vinyl Shops, best DJ's and moves. The film focused heavily on drugs which came along with Northern Soul as it moved up North. The art direction of the film was very moody, cool tones and a vintage feel as it was inspired by the time Northern Soul was around in the 60's. The scenes were gloomy, dark and reflected the working class culture that naturally gravitated towards this scene. Clubs were still very working class focused and Northern Soul had been seen to grow in popularity as the movie went on.
