Makeup and Hair Mood Board


Makeup and Hair Mood Board: The male models references show a messy mod look. The main front image with the beard (Miles Kane) was the aesthetic I wanted to look towards for the film. It's modern and relatable yet has a tougher edge and still fits the brief with his Northern look. The female references show a cool girl, edgy and Northern style. The main model references (Taylor Lashae) shows the mod haircut, short bob with a fringe and slightly messy. The makeup on the references are simple and we took it a bit more mod with a winged liner look. We didn't want a really bold look as it wouldn't fit the Northern, undone look we were going for. A nude lip and light foundation references was taken from the mood boards. Both models look mod but fit with modern day in Sheffield today.

After watching the Northern Soul Film, we had captured some ideas based on the creativity of the film, art direction and aesthetic as well as the mood created throughout. The movie followed two friends, one helping the other discover the underground (at the time) Northern Soul Scene. As well as the widely popular exclusive Vinyl Shops, best DJ's and moves. The film focused heavily on drugs which came along with Northern Soul as it moved up North. The art direction of the film was very moody, cool tones and a vintage feel as it was inspired by the time Northern Soul was around in the 60's. The scenes were gloomy, dark and reflected the working class culture that naturally gravitated towards this scene. Clubs were still very working class focused and Northern Soul had been seen to grow in popularity as the movie went on.
