Styling the models

Styling the male model

I wanted to take a modern approach on the mod look. A T shirt and jeans is the basics and staples for any mod look. Fred Perry was a must for the centre of our styling due to the association through the years and subcultures of Mods, rockers and skinheads. We chose a ringer tee for the laid back mod style. We look at a more thrown on look for the male model, roll up jeans to add an edge and a corduroy jacket to finish off the look. Adidas trainers are very common in modern mod styling. Inspiration for the trainers came from Pete Mckee's Adidas illustration, he made it known this was a very Sheffield up north look and that's the feel we wanted to give from our styling. Adidas style trainers were commonly seen in the mod era.

Styling the female model

Female model: We took inspiration from both the classic northern soul styling and the modern mod scene that you see in Sheffield today. We created a look again based around Fred Perry. We wanted the couple to correlate in their styling pieces so we used Fred Perry as this association. The female model is styled with a Fred Perry x Amy Winehouse jacket with a large Fred Perry logo on the back. This give off a tougher/ skinhead style but adds a feminine touch with the heart embroidered on the front. This is paired with a Fred Perry twin tipped polo shirt. This being the uniform for mod subcultures over the years and still a crucial item in a mod's wardrobe today, we felt it was important to showcase this in our concept too. We paired this with checked flares trousers, checks were everywhere in the 1960's and flares were huge for women around the Northern Soul years too. We mixed the two and modernised the look to fit the models style. Vinyl boots and go-go boots were a music in any 60's girls wardrobe. White knee high boots especially were huge during this time. We wanted to bring an aspect of this but with a modern twist to fit the aesthetic of the look.
